Revised Content:

Dahlias are annual plants that thrive in 30-80 days. The stems are robust, reaching a height of 30-40 feet (80-100 cm). The inflorescences, or flower heads, are large and spherical, with a diameter of 2-3 feet (4-6 cm) and a variety of vibrant colors. These flowers can be grown by sowing seeds directly in open ground, or for earlier blooming, through the use of seedlings. Flowering typically begins in July and continues until the first frost. Dahlias are well-suited for group plantings in flower bed designs and also make excellent cut flowers.

To start your dahlia seeds, fill a pot or seed tray with moist seed compost and lightly firm the surface. Gently press the dahlia seeds into the compost and remember to label them clearly. Cover the pots with an inflated clear polythene bag, secured in place with a rubber band. If using seed trays, cover them with a propagator lid.

The seedlings will typically germinate within a couple of weeks. Once the 'true' leaves have developed, the seedlings are ready to be transplanted into individual pots. Carefully hold the plants by their leaves and gently tease them out of the soil.

Transplant the seedlings into 10 cm (4 inch) pots filled with multipurpose compost, firm the soil, and water thoroughly. In mid-May, gradually acclimatize the plants to outdoor conditions by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back in at night (a process known as "hardening off"). Once the risk of frost has passed, plant the dahlias in their final positions.

The resulting plants will showcase a wonderful variety of different flower shapes and colors, adding vibrant beauty to your garden.
